A successor for the business you built.
Northpoint Business Group buys established product and service companies across the Great Lakes region and stays on to run them, alongside the people who made them work. We’re based in Detroit, Michigan.
Operators, not financial engineers.
We look for good companies with strong reputations, loyal customers and capable employees, and we treat what the founder built as the asset worth protecting.
The work after closing is practical: understand why the business succeeds, keep those strengths intact, and make room for steady growth.
What we do
- Take an active role in running the company day to day.
- Protect the team, reputation and customer commitments that made the business worth buying.
- Reinvest earnings in people, processes and customer relationships.
What we won’t do
- Load a company with more debt than it can comfortably carry.
- Buy a business that needs a turnaround to be worth owning.
- Treat the sale as a transaction and disappear after closing.
What we look for
We’re open on industry and selective on quality.
- Revenue
- $1M to $5M a year
- Earnings
- EBITDA margins above 25%
- Location
- Within about 250 miles of Detroit
- Business
- Niche products or specialized business services, with repeat customers and modest capital needs
- Ownership
- An owner planning retirement or a leadership change, or looking for a partner for the next stage
- Not a fit
- Turnarounds and early-stage companies
These are general preferences, not eligibility requirements or an offer to buy.
After the sale
Lasting value comes from sound decisions, better processes and capable people. This is the order we work in.
Listen first
Learn the company, its people, customers and economics, and what matters most to the owner.
Strengthen the foundation
Get clear visibility into financial performance, pricing, processes and priorities.
Develop leadership
Build up the next generation of managers so the company doesn’t depend on any one person.
Build lasting value
Invest in customer relationships, steady profitability and long-term options.
Thinking about selling?
Selling a business is more than a financial transaction. It decides what happens to your employees, your customers and the reputation you spent years earning.
Talk to us about a transition- Your people
- We buy companies for the teams that run them. Keeping good people is part of the plan.
- Your customers
- Customer relationships are much of what we’re buying. We work to keep them, not just inherit them.
- Your role
- Some owners want a clean handoff; others want to stay involved for a while. We plan the transition around what you want.
- Your privacy
- A first conversation is confidential and commits you to nothing. You don’t need to share financials to start.
Brokers, advisors, lenders and investors
We focus on one region so we can rely on direct relationships, careful underwriting and active involvement after closing.
If you know an owner or an opportunity that fits, or you’d like to back disciplined acquisitions in the Great Lakes, we’d welcome an introduction.
